From a young age, Mr. Oliver drew a wealth of influence from his father, who was active in local politics, and pursued a career that would allow him to change society for the better. He proceeded to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico, a Master of Arts from Rowan State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Brooklyn Law School. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Oliver also received a certificate in microeconomics from the Christian Economics Institute.
For 19 years, Mr. Oliver served as the chief operating officer and legal consultant for Bronx United IPA and Hudson Heights IPA. He has also served as a full professor of business and law at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) for more than 25 years. At FDU, Mr. Oliver established the Gateway to the Future (Puerta al Futuro) program, an undergraduate program for Hispanic students with English language deficiencies, which currently enrolls more than 500 Hispanic adults.
In addition to his academic appointments, Mr. Oliver is a practicing attorney in New York and New Jersey, specializing in criminal, commercial and health law. In the late 1980's, he also served as a television commentator for Univision, and as an editorial page contributor for the Spanish language dailies, El Diario La Prensa, Noticias del Mundo and Impacto. For his efforts in his career, Mr. Oliver has received recognition from the American Institute of Criminal Defense Attorneys as 10 Best in New Jersey for Outstanding Client Satisfaction.
As a community leader, Mr. Oliver has received numerous accolades from the Puerto Rican Day Parade, the Dominican Day Parade, the Bolivarian Day Parade, the Dominican Lawyers Association, the House of Representatives and the Republic of Colombia. He was also presented with the Simon Bolivar Medal for Service in the Hispanic Community. In the classroom, Mr. Oliver specializes in ancient Egypt and Rome, Sumerian culture, classical Greece, as well as Christian, Islamic and Hindu religions, Buddhism, Confucianism, and the classical philosophy of Heraclitus, Socrates and Plato. In 2008, he received the 'Presidential Recognition Faculty Award' from Fairleigh Dickinson University for his contribution and commitment to serve and educate the Hispanic community.
