Ms. Searle is an educator, entrepreneur and dental professional with more than 20 years of excellence in her respective fields. Her path to dentistry was not always apparent: After high school, she enrolled at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and attained a Bachelor of Science in biology. Ms. Searle struggled academically during her time at Rutgers, feeling a lack of academic support and guidance, and sought another career path for herself. At the suggestion of her mother, she returned to school for dental assistant training, embarking upon what would become a decades-long career.
After completing her training, Ms. Searle reached out to her own childhood dentist, who became an early mentor and her first employer in the field. While continuing to work in dentistry, she continued her education, earning a Master of Science in education from Ashford University. Mindful of her own experiences in both dental assisting and in higher education, Ms. Searle's interest in teaching dentistry and dental technology blossomed. She began to teach at Delaware Technical Community College and a vocational school, parlaying her knowledge of medical and dental assistance for a year before being named as the director of education, where she would serve for five additional years.
Constantly seeking ways to better connect with her students and prepare them for success in their own careers, Ms. Searle opened the Skye Academy of Dental Assisting, a private dental assistant training program built around real-world knowledge and practical experience. Recalling her own early struggles to find sufficient academic support, and her nontraditional road to dentistry, Ms. Searle strives to teach and develop a supportive curriculum that leaves students empowered to begin their practice and remain motivated to continue their training. She has been named as an Educator of the Year for her pragmatic and energetic approach to classroom leadership, and hopes to continue her own educational journey with a Doctor of Philosophy in behavioral psychology.
