NEW PORT RICHEY, FL, September 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joanne Balducci DeFeo has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. DeFeo is a certified public accountant and finance educator with nearly two decades of expertise in postsecondary education. A gifted student, she initially hoped to become a math teacher, inspired by the example of her own high school algebra instructor, Mr. Rothstein, but began to investigate the potential of a career in accounting on his advice. Ms. DeFeo holds a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Old Westbury, and began her career in tax accounting, which would become her specialty for the next two decades.
In 2002, Ms. DeFeo earned a Master of Business Administration from the New York Institute of Technology, and began teaching introductory accounting at Queensborough Community College as an adjunct professor in 2005. The following year, she became an accountant for Nassau Community College, rising to become the Comptroller during her eleven-year tenure. Ms. DeFeo would continue to work with both colleges until 2015, when she relocated to Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and stepped into her current role with Pasco-Hernando State College.
Initially hired as an accounting specialist, Ms. DeFeo's passion for education led her to become adjunct faculty at Pasco-Hernando State College in 2017, where she teaches accounting and personal finance classes in addition to her bookkeeping responsibilities. She is also the author of a self-published memoir and audiobook, "Red Means Go: the Story About My Life." Released in 2018, the book details her childhood in Queens and her efforts to start over after catastrophic losses in Hurricane Sandy. Following this accomplishment, Ms. DeFeo is currently working on her second book, "Back to Bari."
Ms. DeFeo attributes her success to her tenacity and positivity, and hopes to be working as a subcontractor for a Big Eight accounting firm within the next five years. As an advocate for the advancement of the accounting profession and a part of her commitment to remaining on the cutting edge of her field, she is affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Government Accountants. Ms. DeFeo is an active member of her local Elks Club chapter and a supporter of the ASPCA.
