An accomplished listee, Ms. Stocker celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Accruing 40 years to her career before retiring as a secondary school teacher in Exeter, Pennsylvania, Ms. Stocker has earned renown for her success. Aligned with the West Pittston School District in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, from 19S3 to 1960 as a music and language teacher, she was later recruited by the Wyoming Area School District in Exeter, where she taught music and choral and English composition between 1970 and 1993. During her tenure in Exeter, Ms. Stocker also chaired the language arts department and served as the director of the national history day activities. Additionally, she was a state consultant for National History Day for several years and taught the History Day Students how to prepare for presentations. She also taught private music lessons to several students.
Heavily involved in community affairs, Ms. Stocker has garnered acclaim for her contributions as the director of the combined church choirs of all faiths for the Wyoming and West Wyoming joint Centennial Choir. In other numerous roles she was a judge for many History Day events and prepared her own students to participate in the events. She has worked as an organist and choir director for the Wyoming United Methodist Church since 1958, where she remains active as a parishioner, worship committee chair, and administrative board member. She also is organizer and director of various joint choirs for special events.
To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Ms. Stocker has maintained her professional affiliation with various pertinent organizations, including the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and the Music Educators National Council. Presently, she is aligned as a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, where she has served as a member of PASR region III. Ms. Stocker was named as the Volunteer of the Year by the Association for her dedication in 1998. She also sat on the social services committee of Pennsylvania School Employees Retirement Systems as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International for Women Educators; very active group dealing with many areas of education for students. Ms. Stocker served as president, secretary, and chair of several different committees. She was presented with an award. She was also a member of Phi Mu Gamma.
She earned a bachelor's degree at Misericordia College in Dallas, Pennsylvania in 1953 for music teaching and supervising, and the teaching of English. She later received a master's degree equivalency diploma through the Pennsylvania Department of Education in 1991. To recognize her accomplishments as an educator, she has been the recipient of several Teacher of the Year awards: PASR, DAR, Wilkes University, Delta Kappa Gamma, local newspapers, and the Wyoming Area School District. She was bestowed with a citation from Pennsylvania Senator Musto, Pennsylvania Representative Mundy and President Clinton, as well as a Medallion Award from College Misericordia. For her contributions to the Wyoming United Methodist Church, the church recognized Ms. Stocker as a 1999 honoree.
