In recognition of her outstanding body of work, Ellen Feiler accepted the 9th Annual Excellence in Healthcare Award from the South Florida Business Journal.
WILTON MANORS, FL, September 11, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ellen Feiler has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After accruing more than 40 years of experience in health education and community outreach, Ms. Feiler retired from her role as the director of health promotion and social marketing for the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. Between 1980 and 2015, she maintained responsibility for short and long-term strategic planning, developed and managed the budget and supervised the public information office. Ms. Feiler has been responsible for numerous health-related programs, including the Breast and Cervical Cancer Initiative, the Drowning Prevention Initiative, the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program, the AIDS/Health Education Risk Reduction Program and the Chronic Disease Program.
Prior to beginning her tenure with the aforementioned health department, Ms. Feiler taught health education at Brooklyn College and Queensborough Community College between 1973 and 1980. Additionally, she served as a clinic coordinator for the New York City Health Department during the Swine Flu Program. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of teaching, as she loves people and imparting her wealth of knowledge to them. Outside of her primary responsibilities, Ms. Feiler has contributed to the Human Rights Board in Broward County, the founder of the Tobacco Free Project and an active member of the board of the American Cancer Society.
Before embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Feiler earned a Bachelor of Arts in health education from Hunter College in 1973. She subsequently obtained a Master of Science in health and safety education through the University of Illinois in 1974, completed coursework in gerontology at Columbia University between 1977 and 1979 and graduated with a Master of Arts in gerontology from Lynn University. In the ensuing years, Ms. Feiler became a certified healthcare leader, a master specialist of health education and a health education specialist in Florida.
Throughout her career, Ms. Feiler remained aware of changes in the field through her affiliations with the Florida Public Health Association, the Florida Association of Professional Health Educators and the Florida Association of Public Health Educators. She was also aligned with the New York State Federation of Public Health Educators, the American Public Health Association and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. On a local scale, Ms. Feiler has dedicated herself to the Broward County Schools Superintendent's Wellness and Educational Supports Committee, the Smart Growth Partnership of Broward County, the Aging and Disability Resource Center and the Florida Comprehensive Cancer Control Collaborative.
In recognition of her outstanding body of work, Ms. Feiler accepted the 9th Annual Excellence in Healthcare Award from the South Florida Business Journal. Inducted into the Hunter College Hall of Fame, she additionally obtained the Public Citizen of the Year Award from the National Association of Social Workers and the Ann S. Loop Award for Outstanding Health Educator of the Year. In the coming years, Ms. Feiler intends to parlay her knowledge of the field to others as a consultant.
