LIVINGSTON, AL, September 14, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- R.T. Floyd has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Having accrued more than 45 years of inimitable experience in the field of athletic training, Dr. Floyd has garnered a laudable reputation as a distinguished professor of physical education and athletic training on behalf of the University of West Alabama. In his position, he has assessed injuries and illnesses in patients of all ages, including university personnel and members of the community. He also oversees the department of physical education and athletic training as the chairperson and serves as the director of the UWA Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center. Well regarded as a prolific writer, Dr. Floyd has authored two books, "Manual of Structural Kinesiology" and "Kinesiology for Manual Therapies." In honor of his manifold accomplishments when the expansion of the athletic training facility at the University of West Alabama was completed in 2014,the UWA Board of Trustees named it the R.T. Floyd Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center.
At his stepfather's suggestion, Dr. Floyd became involved in athletic training during the ninth grade, and found that he enjoyed the sense of responsibility it gave him. Having come of age, he attended the University of West Alabama, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in health, physical education and recreation in 1980, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching in physical education in 1982. He concluded his academic efforts in 1995, having attained a Doctor of Education in Human Performance Studies from the University of Alabama in 1995. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Floyd is certified as an athletic trainer, a strength and conditioning specialist, an athletic equipment manager, a personal trainer and is a licensed emergency technician.
Throughout his career, Dr. Floyd has also received many recognitions and special appointments. He was inducted into the UWA Athletics Hall in Fame in 2001 and the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Hall of Fame in 2013. He also received the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award from the NATA, the District IX Award for Outstanding Contribution to the field of Athletic Training from SEATA, the UWA Achievement Award from the University of West Alabama National Alumni Association, the Lifetime Contribution Award from the NATA Research and Education Foundation, and countless other awards and accolades. In accounting for his standout success, Dr. Floyd credits the support he has received throughout the years, as well as inspirational mentors such as James R. Andrews, M.D. and Ken Wright, OAT, ATC.
To remain aware of developments effecting his area of expertise, Dr. Floyd maintains his professional affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations. To wit, he is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the Athletic Equipment Managers' Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine, SHAPE America and the National Athletic Trainers' Association. Looking toward the future, Dr. Floyd aspires to continue on his current path.
