Renowned for his work, Dr. Garrett's discoveries have included the first perfect trigonal prismatic iron(III) complex, a self-assembling pentameric silver(I) complex, the first U.S.-made clay microtunneling pipe and, among others, smart materials for redistribution of 0.5 kiloton construction forces. He holds several patents in his field and has contributed numerous articles to scientific journals in his areas of expertise.
A graduate of Stanford University, Dr. Garrett acquired a Bachelor of Science in chemistry with honors in 1983. He later received a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley in 1988, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, from 1988 to 1990. Additionally, Dr. Garrett completed the Owner and President Management program at the Harvard Business School of Harvard University in 2007.
Dr. Garrett was elected as a fellow of the American Institute of Chemists. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Quality, a member and past president of the Orange County chapter of the Entrepreneurs' Organization, a member, past president and Paul Harris fellow of the Corona Rotary Club and a member of Sigma Xi and Phi Lambda Upsilon. Dr. Garrett likewise secured a Chateaubriand Fellowship, which is a grant offered by the Embassy of France in the U.S. that supports outstanding doctoral students from American universities who wish to conduct research in France. Honored for his successes, he also received a District Service Award from the Rotary Foundation.
