She earned a degree as Diplom-Kauffrau from the University of Cologne and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University where she was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma. In 1995, Dr. Loebbecke obtained her Doctorate in business administration (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Cologne.
Dr. Loebbecke continued her postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she pursued coursework in business strategy and artificial intelligence. She further became certified as a board member by the Steinbeis Business Academy in Berlin. From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Loebbecke was appointed as the Krak chair of e-commerce at Copenhagen Business School, departing to return to the University of Cologne as full professor and tenured chair and soon after director of the Global eManagement MBA program.
Serving in the aforementioned capacity until 2002, Dr. Loebbecke has remained active at the University of Cologne as a chaired professor of media and technology management, as well as the school's Fulbright liaison professor. Her research, published in both English and German, covers the impact of new information technologies on transforming media companies, business in general, and our societies. She has broadly explored the development of digital processes, artificial intelligence and machine-learning applications in e-commerce and point-of-sale interactions, as well as the development of digital media offerings and consumer identities as online markets have evolved since the early 2000s. An honorary member and past president of the Association for Information Systems, Dr. Loebbecke has worked as a founding scientific director of the Grimme Research Institute at the University of Cologne and a former division head of the European Academy of Sciences. She has also held board and scientific board positions in the fields of digitization, telecommunication, information technology, and media management.
Throughout her career, Dr. Loebbecke has been profiled in ten editions of Marquis Who's Who. Likewise, she is the recipient of dozens of awards and accolades for her contributions to the field, including a 2012 AIS fellowship, and 2011 and 2005 Case Study Awards from the Society for Information Management (SIM).
