STATEN ISLAND, NY, September 17, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dean Kropp has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For nearly four decades, Mr. Kropp has been a renowned pastry chef/chef for movie stars, published author/photographer and Culinary Olympics competitor. Professionally trained, he holds an Associate of Science degree in culinary arts and food preparation from Joliet Junior College. Following this accomplishment, Mr. Kropp was European trained to perfect the pastry skills that would become his professional signature.
From 1976 until his retirement in 2000, Mr. Kropp advanced from the position of a short-order diner cook to become an in-demand executive pastry chef to high-end restaurants and hotels around the US and abroad. In 1996, Mr. Kropp was called upon to be an on-set chef for actors, amassing an impressive portfolio of A-list clientele until injuries from two vehicle accidents in 2000 and 2004 forced him to leave the kitchen. In 1989, he began his culinary research in order to obtain his goal of writing the book, The Cooking Olympics – World's Best Kept Secret. In 1996, Mr. Kropp appeared on the Food Network as guest chef on Donna Hanover's TV program promoting the 1996 Culinary Olympics that were held in Berlin, Germany.
Mr. Kropp began entering culinary competitions in the early 1980s, including a bronze medal in Garde manger (French for keeper of the cold food), and a pastry arts bronze medal in 1981, Chicago, a pastry arts gold medal in 1983, Memphis, and a pastry arts international gold medal in 1987, Montego Bay, Jamaica. All of the competitions were under the direction of the American Culinary Federation. Mr. Kropp qualified as a gold medalist in the 1996 Berlin Culinary Olympics. In 2018, while recuperating from the chronic injuries, he began writing The Cooking Olympics: World's Best-Kept Secret, which explains how culinary competitions originated in 1900 Germany. Currently awaiting publication, the book is based upon four books that Mr. Kropp acquired from the library of the Culinary Institute of America in 2010. These books found themselves transported from Germany to New York City into the hands of chef Arno Schmidt in the 1960s. Chef Schmidt donated the books to the CIA because of their historical value. Through a series of conversations with Arno, Mr. Kropp retrieved the books and began the difficult work of scanning and translating the German language content in order to obtain the historic facts about which countries were present in 1900, what they cooked and who stopped the event from continuing in 1937. The book is currently in Hollywood waiting to be written for the big screen through Voyage Media. Mr. Kropp's research on the history of the Culinary Olympics was published out of Paris, France in the World Association of Chefs Societies magazine in 2010 and 2012. Rizzoli, New York has published Mr. Kropp's photographs in 2017 for their book New York Living. Mr. Kropp also produced a successful jazz show at Carnegie Hall on February 14, 2014 that showcased The Duet from Italy. The show featured pianist composer Alberto Bellavia – best soundtrack for Time Stamped 64 Oniros Film Awards and winner for the same at the Florence Film Awards, best original score both in 2020.
Dedicated to his community and using his culinary talents to help others, Mr. Kropp has volunteered with City Harvest and SAG-AFTRA's BookPal program, and is the former editor and producer of the American Culinary Federation's Big Apple Chapter newsletter. He has been acknowledged by C-Cap New York City with an award for Outstanding Contributions to the Culinary Arts in 2000, and has received citations for Culinary Excellence from the United States Army Culinary Arts Program in 1999. Mr. Kropp attributes his success to his tenacity and passion for food, and looks forward to the publication of his new book as well as getting the movie into production. He remains affiliated with the American Culinary Foundation, and is a member of SAG-AFTRA.
