DALLAS, TX, September 18, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jeffrey Whitman, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Whitman celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having earned renown as the president and chief surgeon of the Key-Whitman Eye Center since 1995, Dr. Whitman has distinguished himself as a talented physician who concentrates his practice on caring for patients suffering from various eye diseases. Specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, as well as Symfony, Panoptix and Tecnis multifocal lenses, Toric lenses and the implantation of Crystalens®, and the new Light Adjustable Lens, he is also a skilled LASIK surgeon treating nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Prior to the establishment of the Center, Dr. Whitman was the director of emergency services at Mesquite Memorial Hospital from 1981 to 1982, an associate at the Key Eye Center between 1985 and 1995, and a clinical associate professor in the department of ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center from 1986 until 1990.
Dr. Whitman's decision to pursue the field of ophthalmology was due, in part, to his experiences as a child. Constantly attending doctor visits with his sister, who was born with a lazy eye, he became fascinated by the field. Many years later, after completing medical school, he began conducting his own research and was not afraid to try new techniques. Dr. Whitman notably became involved in the very first Food and Drug Administration (FDA) studies on Lasik before the procedure was ever performed on a wide scale.
Highly accomplished in his field, Dr. Whitman has been involved in 14 FDA studies and approximately 20 clinical trials on intra-occular lenses and treatments for presbyopia. He has disseminated many of his research findings by authoring numerous articles in scholarly journals, including the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Ophthalmology, and currently serves as an associate editor of the cataract section of Ocular Surgery News. As an expert in ophthalmology, Dr. Whitman has also provided his expertise as a consultant and speaker at meeting all over the world.
A dedicated community advocate, Dr. Whitman is civically active in Dallas. He chaired the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Greater Dallas, maintained involvement on the board of directors of the Tiferet Israel Synagogue and sits on the board of the Dallas' AT&T Performing Art Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas. Dr. Whitman was also a founding member of the new Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum and has long been a patron of several arts groups.
Dr. Whitman received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry at Southern Methodist University in 1977, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at Southwestern Medical School in 1980. His residency in ophthalmology was completed at the Scott and White Clinic in Temple, Texas. Dr. Whitman is board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and in cataract surgery and LASIK by the American Board of Eye Surgeons. Eminently qualified in his field, he holds multiple certifications.
As a commitment to his field, Dr. Whitman has been involved with multiple different industry-related organizations. Among them, he is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, past president of the American College of Eye Surgeons, a past president of the Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology, past president of the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society and a clinical correspondent of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Whitman has also been an associate member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery since 1993, where he has served in various capacities, including its instrumentation and IOL subcommittee and ophthalmic sterilization task force.
Recognized for his leadership and expertise, Dr. Whitman has received countless awards. He was also recently named as the Best Ophthalmologist and Lasik Surgeon by D Magazine for 2020, where he has been named as the Best Ophthalmologist in Dallas every year since 2002. Likewise, Dr. Whitman was listed among the 250 Top Innovators in Premium IOL Implant Surgery for 2010 and as a Texas Super Doctor by Texas Monthly every year since 2010.
