HUNTSVILLE, AL, September 19, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Lisa I. Dalrymple has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Dalrymple is a food scientist, educator and wellness program administrator celebrating several years of service to the Oakwood University campus community. A gifted cook with a lifelong fascination for anatomy and physiology, Dr. Dalrymple knew at a young age that a career in nutrition and dietetics would be in her future. After seeing older members of her family develop health problems and learning how nutrition played a role in the maintenance and prevention of their complications, Dr. Dalrymple dedicated herself to helping others receive accurate information about food, wellness and nutrition.
In 2006, Dr. Dalrymple graduated from Mercy College with a Bachelor of Science in biology. She continued her education at Alabama A&M University, where she completed a Master of Arts in microbiology in 2009 and her Doctor of Philosophy in food science in 2014. She became assistant faculty at Oakwood University in 2015, rising to associate professor in 2020, and assumed directorship of the school's Healthy Campus 2020 initiative in 2018. Aiming to provide Oakwood students and faculty with the options and resources to make positive lifestyle choices, the program involves educational materials, community partnerships including a mobile farmer's market, and behavioral health support.
Throughout her career with Oakwood University, Dr. Dalrymple has received numerous awards and commendations for her work with the community, including an Employee Recognition Award, a Certificate of Recognition from Oakwood Adventist Academy, and Certificates of Achievement each year since 2018. Dr. Dalrymple credits her success to her tenacity and her constant push to perform better and learn more. She acknowledges the role that her mentors and role models have had in her development, citing specifically the influence of her mother, Ionie, and her grandmother, Mavis.
Dr. Dalrymple is an active volunteer with the American Heart Association and Heaven's Store House, and a member of the American Society for Nutrition, the Alabama Dietetic Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and the Institute of Food and Technology. In the coming years, she plans to begin the process of becoming a registered dietitian, and hopes to continue her work with Oakwood University as a full professor and move into independent nutritional consulting.
