With decades of educational expertise to her credit, Ms. Christensen initially garnered inspiration for her future from her mother. As a teacher, her mother instilled within her the importance of learning and passing on knowledge to others. Additionally, her father was enlisted in the military and regularly relocated their family around the country, which enabled her to experience varying pedagogical systems. Determined to preserve her mother's legacy and provide better academic services for underprivileged children, Ms. Christensen resolved to pursue a career in early childhood edification.
Initially enrolling at Steven F. Austin State University, Ms. Christensen earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and education of individuals in early childhood special education programs in 1992. Subsequently, she obtained a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Wesleyan University. Ms. Christensen actively continues her collegiate ventures as a Doctoral Candidate in Early Childhood Education at Northcentral University working on her dissertation in Early Childhood Readiness.
For over 25 years, Ms. Christensen has excelled as an instructor of early childhood education and special education for the Houston Independent School District. In terms of her past positions, she has served in numerous capacities with the aforementioned school district, including as a lead teacher, a shared decision making committee member, a community service liaison and an intervention assistance team member, to name a few. Utilizing her skillset, Ms. Christensen specializes in working with early childhood intervention programs for students requiring special education.
Previously, Ms. Christensen instructed pre-kindergarten students and particularly enjoyed catering to the needs of special needs children from inner city areas. She routinely coordinates lesson plans for students receiving support in general classroom settings while also facilitating on-site therapy and self-contained learning environments. Throughout her tenure, Ms. Christensen has maintained her involvement with United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast, the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto County, ChildBuilders and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston, among others.
Ms. Christensen likewise maintains her memberships with organizations such as the Golden Key Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi, the Texas Classroom Teachers Association and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. She has been notably honored with several Campus Based Teacher of the Year Awards and a National Teacher Advisor Award. Additionally, Ms. Christensen has been nominated for multiple American Teacher Awards as well as a Martell Teacher Award.
