Having accrued more than 35 years of inimitable expertise in his field, Dr. Chapelle has garnered a laudable reputation as an electronics engineer and researcher. He has been aligned with General Atomics, a defense and diversified technologies company in San Diego, since 2005, for which he is a systems architect that develops synthetic aperture radar for unmanned air vehicles. Working in California throughout the length of his career, Dr. Chapelle originally served as an associate engineer for La Jolla Sciences in Solana Beach between 1984 and 1985. Following this appointment, he was hired by TRW Aerospace, where he earned distinction for more than a decade as a member of the organization's technology staff and as a digital design engineer in the avionics systems division. Recruited by Nokia Mobile Phones in 2000, Dr. Chapelle enjoyed five years with the company as a digital signal processing engineer before beginning his tenure with General Atomics.

During the early stages of his career, Dr. Chapelle was involved with the F-22 and F-35 U.S. Air Force fighter jets. More recently, he has been focusing his efforts on a new landing system for the U.S Navy called advanced arresting gear, or AAG, for the Ford class aircraft carriers. Likewise active as an author, Dr. Chapelle wrote "The Birdcage Review" in 1985, during which he also edited a local newspaper, Hiatus, and has published numerous technical journal, conference, and trade articles.

An avid civic advocate, Dr. Chapelle is deeply involved with science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, as a Boy Scouts of America merit badge counselor teaching children about the various technical and engineering programs. Moreover, he annually participates in the organization's National Engineers Week, where he engages in various hands on activities and delivers speeches regarding careers in engineering. Additionally, Dr. Chapelle has been the chairperson of the Friends of Canyon Country in San Diego since 1993 and a radio merit badge counselor of the Boy Scouts of America since 1993.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Chapelle pursued a formal education at the University of California San Diego, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1985, whereupon he received a Master of Science in electrical engineering at Purdue University in 1986. He subsequently acquired a Doctor of Philosophy in 1998 from UCSD. While pursuing his bachelor's degree, Dr. Chapelle was notably active as a teaching assistant. He is also a licensed General Mobile Radio Service and amateur radio operator through the Federal Communications Commission.

Among his industry-related affiliations, Dr. Chapelle has maintained his professional affiliation with the Association of Computing Machines and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics holding Senior membership. He is also a member of the honorable societies of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi. Recognized in 1998 with a Man of Achievement Award and as member of the 2006 Collier Trophy Team for F-22 CNI contributions. Dr. Chapelle later received a San Diego AIAA Section Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Community in 2015. Dr. Chapelle currently holds two US Patents. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the 25th and 26th editions of Who's Who in the West and the 16th edition of Who's Who in the World.
