A native Iranian, Dr. Parsa was to be arrested under unjust law of the Islamic Republic of Iran only for expressing her opinions for democracy, freedom and women's rights. This experience drove her to empower and lead other women across the world. Backed by her childhood and professional experiences, she excels today in several positions, including founder and president of Women's E-Learning in Leadership, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering university women through mentorship, community engagement and global networking and Self-Empowerment Academy, is a model for social enterprise and collaborates with WELL, provides coaching to women who have experienced discrimination/violence, to become more confident and live to their fullest potentials. Dr. Parsa hopes the university women at WELL Learn, Lead and Create social enterprises be engaged for local and global women communities for a better future for all.
In addition to the aforementioned roles, Dr. Parsa is affiliated with the Middle East Institute-Iran Program in Washington, DC. She is working with a project about sex trafficking and Women, Peace and Security in Iran. She has published several articles about the role of women in future Iran. Over the years, she has also gained valuable expertise as a professor at George Mason University, and researcher at Harvard University, where she worked on a project titled "Diverse meanings of the concept of secularism in Iran," and as a visiting scholar with the University of Maryland, through which she retained affiliation with the Roshan Center for Persian Studies and studied Iranian women and the challenges they face in regards to political leadership.
An expert in her field, Dr. Parsa earned a master's degree in political science from the University of Copenhagen and a Doctor of Philosophy in social science from Roskilde University. Subsequently, she pursued postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University.
To remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Parsa aligns herself with the National Council of Human Rights, the National Council for Women and the National Council for European Policy. With considerable expertise at her fingertips, she has authored a book, and several chapter books including "Confronting Islamic Ideologies in Iran" and "Challenges of Iranian Women to Change the Gender Discretionary Law". In the near future, Dr. Parsa intends to foster connections with younger female students and help empower, educate and guide them toward the future.
