Chen-Oi Chin, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ANN ARBOR, MI, September 30, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Chen-Oi Chin, Ph.D. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Chin celebrates many years of experience alongside her professional network, and has been noted for accruing many achievements, leadership qualities, credentials and successes in her field. For more than 43 years, Dr. Chin has been the Executive Director and now currently serves as President of the Chinese American Educational and Cultural Center of Michigan (CAECC), a statewide nonprofit organization she founded in 1976. Its mission is to familiarize students and the general public about the rich heritage of Chinese arts and culture in the form of teachers training workshops, as well as symposia and conferences for the general public. Excelling within her role since founding CAECC, she has also been instrumental in academia. She began her career as a senior lecturer at the National University of Singapore in 1968-72, taught at the University of Detroit from 1974-1977 and Lawrence Technological University from 2000 to 2014. Dr. Chin served as the Dean of the Center for Cultural Diversity in Singapore from 2001-2004, commuting between Michigan and Singapore during her term of service.

During the length of her impressive career, Dr. Chin has been acutely aware of the growing need for globalization via cultural exchange among countries. She served as a Chinese cultural consultant on behalf of General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Daimler Chrysler, Delphi, Oriental Resources, International, Prudential and Berlitz International Inc.; and has also been active in providing cultural consultations to Bilingual Education for Michigan State Education Department; HEW Bilingual Office, Washington D.C.; and Michigan school districts. Her service also extended to University of Cambridge, England, being the External Examiner for the then-University of Singapore's Chinese Literature Department. Dr. Chin serves as adviser for Chongqing University, China from 1987-present.

Making a considerable impact in her academia field, she also served as a contributing author in several scholarly journals and authored several publications on numerous global leadership topics. Her article titled: "Global leadership Competence: A Cultural Intelligence Perspective" received the Best Paper Award at the 2006 Midwest Academy of Management Conference in Chicago. Likewise, Dr. Chin produced the video "Vision, Courage and Action" revealing the spirit and impact of donors and volunteers serving a nonprofit organization -- CAECC. In addition, she made a special effort to preserve Michigan Chinese arts through publishing "Michigan Chinese Arts from Private Collections," and "Chinese Calligraphy in Michigan Private Collections" covering art history across over 2000 years. In 1999, she was the recipient of a Distinguished Community Award in Michigan.

Dr. Chin received her BA in Foreign Languages and Literature in 1964 and MA in Chinese Studies in 1966. Both from the National Taiwan University. She received her MA in East Asian Literature at the prestigious Yale University in 1968. Thereafter, she followed her Yale Advisor to the Ohio State University where she received her Doctor of Philosophy in 1976.

Dr. Chin secured several grants including Ford Foundation, the National Education Association, the Asia Foundation, the Fulbright Hayes Program, and a Yale Fellowship. She was also recognized by the Singapore government as a Confucian Scholar at the "International Conference on Confucianism in World Civilization" in 1982, elected alongside six other scholars from various Ivy League schools.
