Edward Wright arrived at Boston University in the fall of 1965 on an ice hockey scholarship with the intent to become a physical education teacher. He developed into a very good Division 1 ice hockey player and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation as well a Master of Education. Following these accomplishments, Ed was offered a position as ice hockey coach and faculty member at the University at Buffalo, the flagship of the State University of New York System. Mr. Wright served over 40 years of service to the University at Buffalo Division of Athletics as a coach, administrator, teacher and mentor to thousands of student athletes and the general population. Mr. Wright retired, Professor Emeritus, in January 2012, and now resides in Arizona.
During his years in Buffalo, Mr. Wright was very active as a public speaker at many youth and service club banquets. He received coaching achievement awards from Boston University and UB Buffalo. He served on the advisory Council of Intercollegiate Athletics at Erie Community College and served on and also chaired many coaching search committees at U/Buffalo, Niagara University and Erie Community College. Coach Wright was a head instructor at many summer hockey schools in the Buffalo area affiliated with the Buffalo Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers. Mr. Wright also served 5 years as a scout for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Edward L. Wright's dedicated service to the University at Buffalo was honorably recognized in April 2010, when a UB facility was established in his name. He has been and is incredibly proud of the many students that he has taught and guided throughout his career. Mr. Wright has attributed his professional success to his faith, family, mentors and the desire to make a positive impact on students' lives.
