Thompson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mrs. Thompson, a widow, celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Supported by years of professional experience, Kathy S. Thompson has been a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor since 1982. Prior to this appointment, she worked as an editor and a proofreader, from 1978 to 1981. Moreover, she has been a licensed Marriage and Family Counselor in three states. She obtained a teaching credential from the University of Colorado in 1971.
Mrs. Thompson was in a car accident in 1996, which caused her to be more sedentary and to turn to writing. She still has some related medical problems, even after surgery. Had there been no accident, there would have been no books, short works, and poems. Mrs. Thompson has found success with her written works as well, authoring numerous books, collections of poems, and short stories, including "Going through Life Poems and Short Works," "Straggler Poems and Short Works," and "Isolates Poems & Short Works." Passionate about gardening, landscaping, and animal rights, Mrs. Thompson has written two related books on the subjects: "Landscaping A Small Lot" and "I Care for My Cats (and Other Animals)." A prolific author, she is working on a book, "Three Careers and A Driven Life," about her productive father, Stephen W. Shambaugh, who worked as an executive of an oil company, a high-ranking military leader, and an attorney. Very early writings were "An American Girl in Canada," "A Life Filled with Poetry" and "Geena's Rehabilitation" in 2006. Mrs. Thompson, a widow, had been raised in Canada as a child and teenager.
In light of her many accomplishments, Mrs. Thompson has received a number of recognitions throughout her career. Noted as an International Poet of Merit by the International Society of Poets in both 2000 and 2007, she was named as one of the Best Poets by the International Library of Poetry in 2001 and 2005. Beyond her continued work in the counseling and writing fields, Mrs. Thompson maintains her affiliation with Delta Delta Delta and a number of poetry groups. In 1964, she was designated International Day Queen at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, and Regis College Princess in Denver, Colorado. She has done volunteer work for several fund drives.

Because of her interests in families and children around the world, Mrs. Thompson has been working towards this goal for years, collecting items from all over the world. She is hoping to find eventual business partners and help along the way.
