Dr. Posner has practiced as a family physician with Downtown Baltimore Family Care for more than 40 years. Since 1980, he has offered primary health care services for the entire family. Working closely with patients with a range of health issues, he also provides routine health visits and services such as electrocardiograms, colonoscopies and minor surgeries. Dr. Posner's practice is noted as a patient-centered medical home, is a part of a Care Transformation Organization (CTO), and participates in the Maryland Primary Care program (MDPCP) a medicare demonstration project to increase quality while lowering costs.
Apart from managing his practice, Dr. Posner has been affiliated with Righttime Medical Care, an urgent care facility in Maryland, since September 2009. He has also been active as an attending staff member at Harbor Hospital Center and Mercy Medical Center from 1979 to 2012. In years past, he briefly worked as an emergency room physician at Union Memorial Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Maryland. He is a member of the legislative committee of the Medical and Surgical Faculty of Maryland and has had a faculty appointment at the University of Maryland.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Posner has conducted numerous studies on topics such as Imitrex injections for migraine headaches, bronchitis studies, pneumonia studies and trials on Zoloft in the treatment of depression. He was one of the team of researchers in the ALLHAT antihypertensive and lipid lowering treatments to prevent heart attacks study which is widely quoted in the field of hypertension and hyperlipidemia. He has disseminated many of his research findings by authoring and co-authoring articles published in various peer reviewed journals. A sponsor for the South Baltimore Little League, Dr. Posner is also a member of Kiwanis Club of South Baltimore, the South Baltimore Merchant Association and the Sharp Leadenhall Planning Committee.
Dr. Posner earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Bucknell University in 1972 and a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Maryland in 1976. He then completed a family practice residency at the University of Maryland Hospital between 1976 and 1979. Later, he obtained a Master of Business Administration from the Johns Hopkins University in 2001, followed by a master's degree in finance in 2015 and a master's degree in healthcare management in 2018 from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
Dr. Posner has been board-certified by the American Board of Medical Specialists as a family practice physician in Maryland from 1979 to 2012. Since 2012 he has been certified in Family Medicine by the National Association of Physicians and Surgeons. He additionally garnered his certification to practice Ayurveda, an alternative medicine system, and a certification in laser medicine and surgery. Additionally, he is certified in advanced cardiac life support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Dr. Posner is certified to prescribe Buprenorphine for office-based treatment of opioid dependence and addiction through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration since 2000.
Over the years, Dr. Posner's career has been greatly supported through memberships with several prominent professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians, the Baltimore City Medical Society and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Moreover, he accepted a fellowship from the American Board of Family Medicine in 1986. During his career, he has also been recognized for his achievements with multiple Physician Recognition Awards.
