BROOKLYN, NY, October 07, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Victor Gathers has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Growing up during the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Gathers was enrolled in school during an initiative to restructure school governance in the City School District of New York City. His neighborhood was selected as an experimental district and he was able to attend the open school board meetings. As he observed the meetings, Dr. Gathers was fascinated at how the school system could change when communities and families gain operational control of their community district schools.
Dr. Gathers subsequently decided to pursue a career in school administration in order to have a positive impact on children's lives. Soon thereafter, he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (1973) and a Master of Science Degree (1974), both in Education, from Boston University, a Master of Arts Degree in School Administration (1987) from the City University of New York, and a Doctor of Education Degree (2018) from the Sage Colleges, the area of specialization was school leadership, with an emphasis on preparing over aged and under credited students (alternative education). Notably, Dr. Gathers has served in various supervisory capacities, for over 38 years, in the New York City Department of Education (formerly Board of Education), and is currently an assistant principal in the alternative education district.
As an accomplished professional, Dr. Gathers holds several patents and copyrights, and his written work is housed in the U.S LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, which include, "THE ESSENTIALS FOR A SUCCESSFUL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM"(2003), and "EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES TO INCREASE THE GRADUATION RATE OF ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION STUDENTS"(2019) He received a 20 Year Service Award from the NYC Council of Supervisors and Administrators, where he was a past president of the Black Caucus.
Dr. Gathers is the past director of a school-based cultural/educational program called "Roots Revisited", (based in Brownsville Brooklyn), which gave students the values, and information to support their social and psychological development, and promote academic retention.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gathers has attributed his success to his passion and dedication to his work. He has always been motivated by a sense of duty to his community. He has also been grateful for the direction and guidance from his parents and grandparents which he received from an early age. He currently maintains his professional affiliation with the National Museum of African American History & Culture, the Studio Museum of Harlem and the Arthur Schomburg Museum of Black History. In the coming years, Dr. Gathers hopes to continue his mission towards student retention, success and higher graduation rates to facilitate students on their path to become productive societal members.
