SIOUX FALLS, SD, October 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Greg A. Schultz, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Driven by a desire to help others, Dr. Schultz pursed a career in medicine, culminating in his current role with Sanford Health, where he excels as a vascular surgeon. During his tenure with Sanford, he has also conducted research in multiple areas of vascular surgery, including peripheral arterial intervention, treatment of venous disease and carotid artery stenosis. He worked with several other scholars in the industry, publishing significant research in the SAPPHIRE or Stenting and Angioplasty with Protection in Patients at High Risk for Endarterectomy study, in which patients at high risk for carotid endarterectomy were treated with carotid stenting. Since the mid-1980's, he has also garnered valuable expertise in various aspects of medicine through his appointments with Sanford USD Medical Center and Prairie Lakes Health System. Due to his considerable expertise, Dr. Schultz also serves as a clinical assistant professor at the University of South Dakota's Sanford School of Medicine and has served as Sanford's Chief of Surgery and was a member of its Board of Governors.
In pursuit of his medical dreams, Dr. Schultz earned a Bachelor of Science from Augustana University in 1974. He completed a Doctor of Medicine through University of Minnesota, as well as an internship and residency in general surgery through Hennepin County Medical Center in 1978, 1979 and 1984 respectively. His vascular surgery fellowship was at Providence Medical Center in 1985. Dedicated to continuing education, he is certified in general and vascular surgery through the American Board of Surgeons and maintains professional alignment with the American College of Surgeons, the South Dakota State and the American Medical Associations and the Midwest Vascular Surgical Society just to name a few. Outside of his work, Dr. Schultz contributes to his community through medical mission work in Central America, Our Savior Lutheran Church and as a past member of the board of trustees for Augustana University.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Schultz has authored and co-authored a number of articles and given many lectures. His writings have appeared in such scholarly publications as the South Dakota Journal of Medicine, and he given many presentations both nationally and internationally.
In light of his outstanding body of work, Dr. Schultz has been bestowed with numerous accolades throughout the course of his career. To wit, he earned Teacher of the Year through the University of South Dakota's Medical School, the Sioux Falls Family Practice Clinical Teaching Award, a Best Doctors in America Award and an America's Top Surgeon Award. Looking toward the future, Dr. Schultz wishes to retire and enjoy the fruits of his lifelong labors.
