With decades of educational experience to his credit, Dr. Klinefelter has harbored a penchant for agriculture from a young age. He subsequently graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in 1969. He later obtained a Master of Science in agricultural economics from the University in 1971. He was a commercial banker for five years after receiving is Master's degree. Thriving under the higher education program of the aforementioned institution, Dr. Klinefelter then accepted a National Science Foundation fellowship and concluded his studies with a Doctor of Philosophy in agricultural economics in 1979.
Dr. Klinefelter began his career as an assistant professor at Texas A&M University from 1979 to 1982. Afterwards, he contributed to the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank as the director of marketing, training and financial services until 1985. In 1987, Dr. Klinefelter garnered valuable expertise as the vice president of field operations with the Farm Credit Capital Corporation.
Dr. Klinefelter returned to Texas A&M University, with which he had found further success as a professor and extension economist since 1988. In terms of his additional professional capacities, he is also active as the director of the Executive Program for Agricultural Producers. Moreover, he maintains his membership with the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado, the Graduate School of Agricultural Banking at Iowa, the Ferguson Agri-Management Institute and the American Agricultural Economics Association. Likewise, Dr. Klinefelter has co-authored such written works as "Coordinated Financial Statements for Agriculture", "Financial Decisions: A Survival Handbook for Farmers" and "Recommendations of the Farm Financial Standards Task Force," to name a few.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, he has been honored with a number of accolades, including an Outstanding Teacher Award from the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical Agriculture Students Association as well as a Superior Service Award from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and the American Agricultural Economics Association. He is also featured in past editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest. Notably Dr. Klinefelter has entered into a well-deserved retirement.
