Having accrued over 65 years of expertise as an ophthalmologist in the area of Phoenix, Dr. Lorenzen has affiliated with various hospitals since 1953, including Saint Joseph's Hospital, Saint Luke's Hospital, the Good Samaritan Hospital, and the Surgical Eye Center of Arizona. Throughout his career, he has played an instrumental role with various organizations, serving as a member of the board of directors for the Saint Vincent de Paul Eye Clinic and the Rockefeller and Abbe Prentice Eye Institute of Saint Luke's Hospital as the chairman of the board of trustees. He also served as the president of the Ophthalmic Sciences Foundation. A writer in his field, Dr. Lorenzen also contributed to Arizona Medicine, the scientific journal of the Arizona Medical Association, by twice serving as the publication's editor-in-chief between 1963 and 1970.
An alumnus of Duke University, Dr. Lorenzen received both a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Medicine in 1948. Moreover, he obtained a Master of Science at Tulane University in 1953. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Lorenzen's credit include an internship at the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago between 1948 and 1949, a residency at Duke University Medical Center between 1949 and 1951 and a second residency at Tulane University between 1951 and 1953.
Dr. Lorenzen is an elected fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology. Active with numerous other industry-related organizations, he notably served as a member past president of the Arizona Ophthalmology Society, member and former two-time board of directors of the Arizona Medical Association and member and former secretary of the house of delegates and trustee of the American Association of Ophthalmology. In 1974, Dr. Lorenzen was named to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonel. That same year, he also received a Gold Headed Cane Award. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in approximately 60 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World.
