Kathryn Winter Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Winter has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of music education

BERKELEY, CA, October 22, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Kathryn Winter with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Winter celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Winter has enjoyed more than six decades of inimitable expertise in the field of music education, having served as a private piano teacher since 1956. She served in an official position in this capacity on behalf of the 92nd Street Young Men's Christian Association in New York City from 1958 to 1964 and The Hebrew Arts School of Music and Dance from 1958 to 1968. She lived in Israel from 1969 to 1982 and during those years taught piano in Jerusalem at the Rubin Academy of Music. Following this appointment, Ms. Winter worked as a piano and music teacher with the Young Musicians Program at the University of California Berkeley from 1982 until 2013.

Adjacent to her work in education, Ms. Winter has distinguished herself as a chorus member of numerous musical groups, including the Oakland Symphony Chorus, the Baroque Choral Guild, the University of California Alumni Chorus and Chora Nova. Additionally, she has served as a judge in student piano competitions. Outside of the field of music, Ms. Winter has lectured prolifically on the subject of World War II and the Holocaust at various schools. Born in 1934 and originally hailing from the former nation of Czechoslovakia, her family was separated at the outbreak of hostilities and was forced to remain in hiding due to their Jewish heritage. Ms. Winter wrote about this experience in a semi-autobiographical novel, Katarina, which was published in 1998. Katarina is currently being turned into a full-length film with English subtitles by ARINA, a film company in Slovakia.

For her proficiency in writing, Ms. Winter was awarded a residency at the Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, New York. She has had her short stories published in such literary magazines as The Madison Review, Stories and Across the Generations. Likewise, Ms. Winter won third place in an international short story competition hosted by Moment Magazine in 2012, and shared the top prize with another writer during the Yachats Writers Competition.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Winter sought a formal education at the Manhattan School of Music, where she attained a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in 1956 and 1957, respectively. She conducted her postgraduate studies in piano with musicians Jan Holcman and Wolfgang Rose. She also attended Master Classes in Jerusalem with Leon Fleischer, Nadia Reisenberg and a summer course in 1962 with Carl Orff in Salzburg, Austria, to learn the Orff method of teaching children. To remain aware of developments affecting her area of expertise, she maintained her affiliation with the Music Teachers' Association of California and with the Junior Bach Festival Association as a Board Member. Outside of her vocational circles, Ms. Winter enjoys such diversions as Balkan dancing, and walks in nature.

Ms. Winter has been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.
