Mr. Cox is a renowned educator and counselor who celebrated nearly 40 years of service to his students, district and the larger community prior to his retirement. His interest in teaching emerged from his teenage involvement with service organizations, and he quickly discovered that working with others was a natural fit for his talents. In 1972, Mr. Cox graduated from California State University with a Bachelor of Arts in history.
For more than 35 years thereafter, Mr. Cox found success teaching history at the high school level for the Fremont Unified School District, who nominated him as the Teacher of the Year in 2000. In the late 1990s, he continued his education, returning to San Jose State University to earn a Master of Arts in counseling in 1999. In addition to teaching a full course load, Mr. Cox led a student peer support program, working daily to help facilitate his students' social and emotional growth within the classroom and their communities.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cox was the recipient of numerous awards for his exemplary efforts at the school and community level. He attributes his success to the influence of his parents and grandparents, as well as to the integrity that he gains from his faith. Retiring from teaching in 2010, Mr. Cox currently participates in fraternal and service organizations, having served as the president of the Oakdale Lions Club since 2019.
A lifelong Episcopalian, Mr. Cox remains active as a volunteer at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church of Modesto. Moreover, he is a former member of the Masonic Temple. In the coming years, he looks forward to maintaining his strong relationships with the Oakdale community. Likewise, Mr. Cox hopes to be able to travel with his wife more frequently in his well-deserved retirement.
