Dr. Marshall is a private practice physician who has been aligned with Riverside Anesthesia Associates in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, since 2004. His more than four decades of experience includes specialties in both anesthesiology and pain management, with former positions at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Hospital as the medical director of operating rooms and professor and chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology between 1995 and 1999. Additionally, Dr. Marshall enjoyed 15 years at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, where he garnered a reputation for excellence in the classroom as an assistant and associate professor of anesthesia and earned the roles of associate clinical director of the operating room, director of pain management service and chief of the Division of Pain Management.
During his incredible career, Dr. Marshall served as a moderator at numerous national meetings. As a seasoned researcher, he also disseminated many of his findings by authoring or co-authoring articles and abstracts in various peer-reviewed medical journals. Additionally, he served on the editorial board of the American Journal of Anesthesiology between 1987 and 1999 and the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology between 1988 and 2004.
The first in his family to attend college, Dr. Marshall attributes his success to his parents for their love and guidance, and for instilling in him the importance of a good education. He also notes that his success has been supported by the encouragement of his wife, Dale. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in biology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1970, he achieved a Doctor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1974. Additional educational pursuits include a surgical internship and residency in surgery at the University of Cincinnati, followed by a second residency in anesthesiology and a research fellowship at the University of Virginia College of Medicine. Dr. Marshall is board certified in anesthesia and pain management.
Dr. Marshall has held leadership roles in numerous national and international organizations, including Anesthesia and Critical Care as a member, former secretary-treasurer, past vice president, past president and former board of directors. Other memberships include the Society of Neurosurgery, the Association of University Anesthetists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society and the Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiology. In his spare time, he actively participates with Hope Springs Farm, a facility that aids individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Dr. Marshall also enjoys salt water fishing and boating.
Celebrating his success, Dr. Marshall was honored in 1980 with an Antarctic Service Medal by the National Science Foundation. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in approximately 50 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World.
