Drawing inspiration from her in-laws, who had earned distinction as healthcare professionals, Dr. Fournier decided to pursue a similar path in the field of hospice nursing. For more than 40 years, she tended to the terminally ill. During this time, she gained valuable expertise as an admissions nurse for one of the largest hospice agencies in the area before joining a private agency as the director of nursing. In order to spend more time with traumatized families, Dr. Fournier established her own company.
Supported by her extensive expertise and boundless compassion for others, Dr. Fournier excels today as the chief executive officer of Colors of Power LLC, through which she educates children, families and the public on hospice care. A retired lieutenant colonel with the Army Nurse Corps, she has authored several books in recent years, including "The Colors of Power: Soaring to Greatness," which chronicles her life, struggles and faith. She also wrote "Preparing the Harvest: Planting Good Seed for the Kingdom," which is dedicated to exploring her faith and spreading her Christian faith, and "Mary Koala Goes to Hospice: The Koala Family Faces a Terminal Illness," which depicts the life of a young boy who struggles with his faith as his sister is dying. Through the book, Dr. Fournier aims to help parents discuss the ideas of death and dying with their children.
The daughter of a sharecropper, Dr. Fournier received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Howard University, a Master of Science in Nursing from San Jose State University and a Master of Arts in healthcare administration from Webster University. She subsequently concluded her academic efforts with a Doctor of Philosophy in health and human sciences from Capella University. Eminently qualified in her field, Dr. Fournier has been certified as a legal nurse consultant, end-of-life consultant and business owner entrepreneur.
In order to remain aware of ongoing changes in the nursing and writing industries, Dr. Fournier aligns herself with the San Antonio Black Authors Guild and Black Nurses Rock. During her spare time, she contributes to her community through the Greater Corinth Baptist Church. Throughout the course of her career, she served as a member of the inaugural committee for President Barack Obama in 2013 and created a stuffed animal that folds into a pillow with a Velcro-knitted pocket, which she patented in 2019. In the coming years, Dr. Fournier intends to continue educating children through her efforts as a writer.
