Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. McCants pursued an education at Brown University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in business economics and a Bachelor of Arts in organizational behavior and management in 1986. She continued her academic efforts with a Master of Arts in project management from the George Washington University in 1997, a Master of Science in broadcast journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1999 and a Master of Business Administration in executive education from Boston University in 2017. In addition to these accomplishments, she garnered certifications from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the University of Kansas and Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick. Ms. McCants subsequently continued her studies at Dartmouth College, graduating from the Tuck School of Business with certificates of digital excellence and business development in executive education in 2018.
Ms. McCants has participated in numerous endeavors beyond her primary responsibilities in the field. A board member for the Entrepreneurship Pioneers Initiative at Rutgers Business School and the Newark Regional Business Partnership since 2016, she has further contributed to the Women's Leadership Council with the United Way of Essex and West Hudson since 2015. A Spanish-bilingual professional who remains ambitious and passionate despite her stellar success, she has also flourished in her civic undertakings, including Operation Just Hope with the Saint Paul Baptist Church of Montclair, NJ, the "Great Football Sunday" social media campaign to help end homelessness for destitute women with families in cities hosting the Super Bowl, and integrated communication missions in conjunction with the Communication for Social Change Consortium. Moreover, Ms. McCants remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise, such as the National Association of Black Journalists, the Women's Business Enterprise's National Council, the National Minority Supplier Development Council and the Newark Regional Business Partnership.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. McCants has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. Renowned for her televised program, "Woman of the Week," which was broadcasted for nearly two decades, Ms. McCants was hoping to revive the series and discovered the power of telling the stories of others through authentic and compelling ways, which drew her to her present post. A cancer survivor, single mother and Black woman in America, her tenacity and commitment has permeated throughout her actions, whether it be fostering the burgeoning career of her child or cementing the foundation of her independent business by always completing projects on time and on budget.
