Ms. Matot is an insurance defense attorney concentrating her practice on vehicle and premises liability, claims assistance, and bad faith. With more than 15 years of experience in both civil and criminal representation, Ms. Matot is a litigation and dispute resolution expert with unique insight into the demands of effective client representation. She aspired to become a lawyer at the age of 11, and earned her Juris Doctor in 2003 from Stetson University College of Law, where she was an award-winning Student Ambassador and mentor for incoming law students, William F. Blews Pro Bono Award recipient, two-time Honor Roll recipient, and officer for Stetson's Shields and Scales club. She completed her undergraduate studies at Eckerd College. While earning her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, she enjoyed her journalism work as a section editor of the college's yearbook and earned her way into Omicron Delta Kappa.
Ms. Matot's career began in 2005 as an Assistant State Attorney in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida. Over the next four and one half years, she prosecuted thousands of cases against adult and juvenile offenders whose charges ranged from misdemeanors to life sentence felonies with enhancements. She accepted a position as an Associate Attorney with Shapiro, Fishman & Gache in 2010. There, she focused her practice on representation of national mortgage lenders in real estate and foreclosure matters, and honed her skills in alternative dispute resolution and mediations. Upon departing the firm in 2012, she joined Douglas C. Zahm, P.A. to continue her practice representing national lenders in real estate and mortgage foreclosure as a Litigation Associate. Having conducted more than 100 non-jury and 25 jury trials by 2019, Ms. Matot moved into her current role with Kubicki Draper. Her practice now focuses on third-party litigation defense and pre-suit claims handling. This is where her trial experience and diversified background in mediations, depositions, discovery specialization, and knowledge of negotiations has proven most helpful.
Throughout her career, Ms. Matot has developed a reputation for her thorough and incisive legal analysis and ability to support and build rapport with clients at all stages of their cases. She is licensed to practice in all State Courts of Florida and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Ms. Matot is a member of both the West Pasco Bar Association and the Barney Masterson Inn of Court. As a part of her commitment to community development, she has volunteered with the Pinellas County Teen Court and Pinellas County Habitat for Humanity, is a former member of the Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers, and currently an active member volunteer for her local Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks lodge and member of her local Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary chapter. Each year, Ms. Matot returns to her alma mater to volunteer at competitions hosted by Stetson University College of Law.
Ms. Matot attributes her success to her family's unyielding support as well as her own tenacity to persevere through any obstacle which presented itself; this she learned from her parents.
