Leveraging his expertise as a renowned chemical engineer of more than 50 years, Dr. Eppler has garnered a laudable reputation as the owner and consultant of Eppler Associates since 1986. His career, which dates to 1959, began with Corning Glass Works in New York as a research chemist. He later acquired positions with Mobay Chemical Corporation as a research scientist between 1965 and 1984 and Olin Corporation as a supervisor of ceramics until 1986. Additionally, Dr. Eppler was instrumental as an associate professor of chemical engineering at the University of Lowell for three years, beginning in 1986, the same year he established his consulting business.
Dr. Eppler's extensive research has resulted in the acquisition of more than 20 patents in his field. He has also authored numerous articles in scholarly and professional publications in his area of expertise. Likewise, Dr. Eppler authored "Glazes and Glass Coating" in 2000 and "Understanding Glazes" in 2005.
Hailing from a family history of engineers and machinists, Dr. Eppler attended Carnegie-Mellon University, from which he received a Bachelor of Science in 1956. Following this accomplishment, he matriculated at the University of Illinois, where he completed both Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1958 and 1960, respectively. After graduating from college, Dr. Eppler enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps between 1960 and 1961. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of New York.
As a commitment to his field, Dr. Eppler has been actively engaged with several professional organizations, including the American Chemical Society, the Electrochemical Society and the honorable society of Sigma Xi. He is also a former committee chairperson of the American Society for Testing and Materials and a fellow and former vice president of the American Ceramic Society. Well regarded for his indelible contributions to the field, Dr. Eppler notably received the John Marquis Award from the American Ceramic Society in 1974 and a Merit Award from the American Society for Testing and Materials in 1984. As Historian of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, he is writing the history of the church for its 300th Anniversary.
