HALLANDALE BEACH, FL, November 02, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Lorraine Portelance has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With decades of medical experience to her credit, Dr. Portelance consistently harbored sympathy for patients and families afflicted by cancer. Understanding the level of vulnerability these individuals experience, she recognized the importance in trusting the care and proficiency of a treating oncological physician. Desiring the chance to ease the turmoil this population regularly undergoes, she resolved to pursue a higher education in researching and treating different forms of malignant cell growth.
Prior to her success, Dr. Portelance enrolled at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and earned a Bachelor of Science in science and physical therapy. Subsequently, she obtained a Doctor of Medicine and completed a radiation oncology residency at the University of Montreal. Following her departure from the aforementioned institution, she completed a fellowship in radiation oncology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis.
Currently, Dr. Portelance excels as the vice chair and director of clinical research for the radiation oncology department at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami. In this capacity, she oversees daily operations concerning the research and treatment of oncological cases. More specifically, Dr. Portelance specializes in approaches to decreasing radiation toxicity and improving methods of eradicating cancer without unnecessary irradiation exposure. Her department retains a considerable research portfolio of more than 25 recruiting clinical trials for a variety of tumor sites, and she has been instrumental in the program's 30 percent faculty growth by opening two additional satellite centers. Recently, the Center has been designated at a National Institutes of Health cancer center.
Dr. Portelance maintains membership with the American Society for Radiation Oncology, with whom she has been elected a fellow. Likewise, she exercises civic responsibilities by participating each year in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge, a cycling fundraiser founded by the Miami Dolphins to combat cancer. She attributes her success to her persevering work ethic, dedication and compassion for patients struggling with this disease. Dr. Portelance plans to continue her research with her team of dedicated specialists in the near future.
