His career, which has spanned more than 55 years, currently involves representing Insight Photonic Solutions, Inc., a laser based equipment supplier, as the vice president of strategy. Previously, he gained a tremendous amount of experience as a cofounder of Storage Technical Corporation, which he presided over for more than 15 years, first as director of technology and ultimately serving as vice president and general manager. Followed that as the founder, chief executive officer and chairperson of the Exabyte Corporation then Ecrix Corporation and as cofounder and chairperson and president of Datasonix.
Apart from his full-time commitments, Mr. Rodriguez was active in education as a Robert J. Appel distinguished lecturer of law and technology at the University of Denver. He subsequently became a professor of electrical energy and computer engineering and engineering management at the University of Colorado, where he was also active on the Center for entrepreneurship, the technology transfer office advisory board and the graduate school advisory board. He continues to serve as an adjunct professor on campus. In the private sector, Mr. Rodriguez has been instrumental as a former board director of Maxtor Corporation and as an engineering advisory board member at both The City College of New York and the University of Colorado Boulder.
Involved with a broad range of charitable and civic organizations throughout Colorado, Mr. Rodriguez has excelled as a co-chairperson of the Colorado Innovation Council in 2008-2010. Some of his former commitments have included serving on the board of directors of the Boulder YMCA and on the board of governors of the Boulder County United Way. Mr. Rodriguez's professional endeavors have included membership with several industry-related organizations, including the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Computer Society of the IEEE. He was also member of both the Boulder and Greater Denver Chambers of Commerce.
Mr. Rodriguez received a Bachelor in electrical engineering at City College of New York in 1962 and a Master in electrical engineering at New York University in 1963. He also received an Honorary Doctorate of Science at the University of Colorado in 2011. As a testament to his professional success, Mr. Rodriguez has been recognized with many accolades such as the Spirit Visionary Award from the Boulder Chamber of Commerce in 2004 Likewise, he was named as One of the Top 50 Technology Innovators by VAR Business, as well as the Hispanic Engineer of the Year by the Entrepreneur Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Council in 1995.
