Providing board evaluations and assessments, governance reviews and audits, among other services, her track record speaks for itself. Working alongside her on certain projects, Ms. Cheryl Sorokin, a talented and tenured attorney who consults on various board governance issues, particularly nonprofit governance and nonprofit boards. Ms. Veaco began her career as a legal adviser to William T. Bagley, commissioner of the California Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco. She later became a senior counsel for Pacific Telesis Group and then in 1994 was part of the spinoff of AirTouch Communications and she led the corporate securities group as senior counsel practicing corporate, securities and political law. In 1999, Ms. Veaco was recruited to run the Office of Corporate Secretary as the assistant general counsel and assistant secretary for McKesson Corporation.
Ms. Veaco is a senior fellow of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Center, of The Conference Board.
An alumna of the University of California, Davis, Ms. Veaco received a Bachelor of Arts in political science and public service in 1978 with Highest Honors. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She then completed a J.D. at the university's Hastings College of Law in 1981. Always interested in political science, she was ultimately driven to work in government due to her involvement in the field.
Ms. Veaco supports her career through membership with the Society for Corporate Governance. She twice served as president of the organization's northern California chapter from 2001 to 2002 and again between 2008 and 2009 and remains a member of the advisory committee. She was also active on the national board of directors from 2002 to 2007. She is also a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the International Women's Forum.
As a testament to her professional success, Ms. Veaco was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award for Corporate Governance from the Women's 100 in 2018. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been showcased in over 35 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in Finance and Business, and Who's Who in the World.
