Drawing inspiration from his childhood experiences, particularly from the loss of his mother due to a virus, Dr. Corbett pursued a career in medicine in order to prevent families from experiencing a loss like his. He received a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry from Hofstra University and a Doctor of Medicine from the New York University School of Medicine. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Corbett completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Miami affiliated hospitals and was certified as a diplomate of the Subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Corbett entered solo practice in 1984, and ultimately became a founder of Florida Digestive Health Specialists, a large single specialty group of more than 40 gastroenterologists and 60 mid-level providers in nine counties in central Florida. He co-founded Suncoast Endoscopy of Sarasota and serves as faculty for the Florida State University College of Medicine. He currently serves as a senior gastroenterologist for Gastroenterology Associates of Sarasota, a division of Florida Digestive Health Specialists. As the Medical Director of a premier ambulatory surgical center since 2002, he has contributed to valuable clinical research in the field of Barrett's esophagus, which has led to significant changes in clinical guidelines for screening, surveillance and treatment of this pre-cancerous condition. Dr. Corbett was the first fellowship trained biliary endoscopist in his region. Although working exclusively in private practice, Dr. Corbett has earned both national and international recognition for his high level of expertise. He serves on the editorial review panel for the American Journal of Gastroenterology. He has been able to forge a productive working partnership between private practice, the academic sector and industry along with the patients they serve.
