Dr. Sabbagha is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist celebrating more than 50 years of excellence in academic and clinical practice specializing in diagnostic ultrasounds. Inspired by his father, who was a doctor in his own right, he had realized by the age of seven that he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Sabbagha earned a Bachelor of Arts at the American University of Beirut in 1952, returning in 1958 to complete a Doctor of Medicine.
In 1958, Dr. Sabbagha began his practice as a senior physician for the Trans-Arabian Pipeline Company. He relocated to the United States in 1965, remaining with the company as an OB-GYN specialist, and accepted a concurrent three-year teaching fellowship at the Magee Women's Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In 1970, having undertaken a fellowship in ultrasound diagnostics at the University of Glasgow, Dr. Sabbagha became an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Sabbagha departed the University of Pittsburgh in 1975 to join Northwestern University, where he served as a professor until being granted emeritus status in 1995, and continues to practice as an obstetrician and gynecologist. Following this accomplishment, he assumed his current role as the medical director at the Center of Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound, a Souma Diagnostics facility. During this time, Dr. Sabbagha worked for five years as a clinical professor at the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago.
A prolific author, Dr. Sabbagha has been published extensively in professional journals, and has editing credits on the 1980 and 1994 editions of "Ultrasound Applied to Obstetrics and Gynecology," and "Fetal Anomalies: Ultrasound Diagnosis and Postnatal Management." Additionally, he was an annual volunteer lecturer at Triton Medical College. As a commitment to his field, Dr. Sabbagha has been elected as a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sabbagha has been the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional accomplishments and dedication to his specialty, including a William Heath Byford Outstanding Alumnus Award from Northwestern University, a Wyeth-Ayerst Public Recognition Award and inclusion in Moody's Rating Service's 1994 Best 250 Health Sciences book. Notably, he has been acknowledged with a previous Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and Marquis Who's Who Humanitarian Award, and was selected for inclusion as a Marquis Who's Who Top Professional. Dr. Sabbagha remains professionally affiliated with the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, and the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
