A celebrated dentist and educator who devoted more than 52 years to his career, Dr. Watts was renowned for his expertise. After finishing his academic pursuits, he opened his own private practice in general dentistry in Missouri in 1961, which he oversaw until his retirement in 2013. During the course of his remarkable tenure, he was also a staff member at Barnes Hospital and Saint Louis Children's Hospital, a consultant for the Mallinkrodt Institute of Radiology and a managing partner for RW Investment Company. Additionally, Dr. Watts taught radiology courses for 25 years and was a faculty member at his alma mater, Washington University, in the school of dental medicine and school of medicine.
Dr. Watts originally began working as an organic chemist after graduating from college, but quickly realized that he would much prefer to work with his hands. Born and raised in Missouri, he pursued an education locally at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1954. He later attained a Doctor of Dental Medicine at Washington University in 1961. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Watts received his medical license in the state of Missouri.
To support his career, Dr. Watts has been a member of several prominent organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, and the Greater Saint Louis Dental Society. He is also a member of the U.S. Fencing Association, the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association and the Saint Louis Fencers Club, for which he is past president. Among several other significant memberships, Dr. Watts has been prolifically active with the Sons of the American Revolution.
Dr. Watts secured a U.S. research fellowship and a Mallinkrodt Research Award while working in his profession. In honor of his military services, where he served between 1954 and 1956 in the U.S. Army, he is also a member of the American Legion, the Army and the Navy Club. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Watts has been featured in the 21st edition of Who's Who in the Midwest. He was also listed in the 1967 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America.
