Backed by more than 45 years of practiced legal experience, Mr. Nottingham serves as the owner, a lawyer, a mediator and an arbitrator with Edward W. Nottingham LLC, where he also works as an independent fact-finding investigator and court-appointed special master. Prior to establishing his private practice, he provided his considerable expertise to the U.S. District Court of Colorado, where he was active as the chief district judge from 2007 until 2008 and a district judge between 1989 and 2008. During the 1980s, Mr. Nottingham gained valuable expertise in the field as a partner with Beckner & Nottingham as well as Sherman & Howard, with which he began as an associate in 1973.
Over the years, Mr. Nottingham has also excelled as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Colorado via the U.S. Department of Justice, a member and chair of the Judicial Conference of the U.S. Committee on Automation and Tech, and a law clerk to Chief Judge Alfred A. Arraj of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, a mentor who inspired him as he pursued a career in the field. Throughout his career, Mr. Nottingham has presided over and tried a wide range of federal cases.
An expert in his field, Mr. Nottingham earned a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Cornell University in 1969 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Colorado in 1972, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif Legal Honorary Society and editor of the University of Colorado Law Review. Subsequently, he was admitted to practice law through the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Nottingham has been affiliated with the American Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association, for which he chaired the criminal section during the mid-1980s and the ethics committee from 1988 until 1989.
During his spare time, Mr. Nottingham has contributed to his community through the Beaver Creek Metropolitan District, the Justice Information Center and the 21st Judicial District Victim Compensation Fund. In light of his outstanding work, he has been featured in a plethora of publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in American Politics, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
