Prior to founding her consultancy, Ms. Yapp gained valuable expertise in the field as a senior medical scientist in diagnostics research and development for Beckman Coulter, a supervisor in the Flow Cytometry Lab for Vitro Molecular Laboratories and a senior scientist in the pharmacodynamics bioanalytical laboratory in the Division of Transplantation and Transnational Medicine at Astellas Pharma.
During an earlier stage of her career, Ms. Yapp worked in a variety of senior clinical and management positions with the University of Chicago Medical Center, Thermo Fischer Scientific, Heartland Blood Centers, Abbot Diagnostics and Rush University Medical Center. Though her career has been suffused with highlights, her proudest moment has been taking a leap of faith and leaving Beckman Coulter in order to establish her consultancy. Driven to remain aware of changes in the constantly evolving field of medical technology, Ms. Yapp aligns herself with the International Society for the Advancement of Cytology, the International Society for Laboratory Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the International Society for Analytical Cytology.
While working as a medical technologist with Wheaton Franciscan Shared Laboratories in Milwaukee, her first professional role, Ms. Yapp pursued a Bachelor of Science in medical laboratory science, which she completed at Marquette University in 1993. Following this accomplishment, she earned a Master of Science from the Chicago Medical School, during which time she received a Graduate Research Award, a certificate in immunodiagnostics and clinical flow cytometry from Michigan State University and completed coursework in cell biology, genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry. Looking toward the future, Ms. Yapp intends to bring companion diagnostics to the field of hematology, which will increase the use of hematology in personalized medicine.
