Marquis Who's Who Honors Jane Katz, EdD, with Inclusion in Who's Who in the World

Since the 1960s, Dr. Katz was a professor of Health and Physical Education through the City University of New York including at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, dedicating her career to sharing the transformative potential of aquatic sports. Her introduction to the aquatic arts came from her father, Leon, who learned to swim after nearly drowning as a teenager, and impressed upon her the value of swimming as a survival skill and a tool for personal empowerment. Early in her career, she performed as a member of the U.S. demonstration Synchronized Swimming team in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She has competed in the Maccabiah Games and has been recognized as a world-class Master's level competitor in swimming, synchronized swimming, and fin swimming.

Dr. Katz initially earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from the City College of New York. She received a Master of Arts in Organization and Administration from New York University. She later obtained a Master of Education in Therapeutic Recreation for Aging and a Doctorate of Education in Gerontology from the Teachers College at Columbia University. Her career in education included teaching Physical and Aquatic education at Bronx Community College. She began her career in education at Seward Park High School, her alma mater in New York City.

Dr. Katz has been certified as a Water Safety Instructor Trainer by the American Red Cross and served as a reviewer for their swimming curriculum. She is the author of seventeen internationally-published books, including "Swimming for Total Fitness: A Complete Program for Swimming Stronger, Faster, and Better" in 1981, "Swim Through Your Pregnancy" in 1983 and "The Aquatic Handbook for Lifetime Fitness" in 1996. She has contributed her wealth of knowledge to countless other publications, articles, and programs. Furthermore, Dr. Katz has been a featured instructor in aquatics, rehabilitative exercises, and aerobic fitness video and audio workouts.

Moreover, Dr. Katz has flourished as an advisor to the Women's Sports Foundation, the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and the United States Department of Health and Human Services, among others. As a proponent of aquatic fitness for all ages and life stages, she has worked as an ambassador to the Stanford University Fifty-Plus Fitness Association, the CUNY Conference at the New York Academy of Medicine and the Disability International Foundation. Dr. Katz is additionally noted as the creator of Water Exercise Techniques for Veterans and Kids Aquatic Re-Entry, swim programs tailored to the emotional and exercise needs of military veterans and youth in the juvenile justice system.

Dr. Katz has excelled as a member of the United States Masters All-American over 100 times since the 1970s as well as the captain of the United States Maccabiah Games Swim Team since 1957. Among many other accolades, she has been celebrated among the Aquatics International Power 25, inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, the John Jay College Athletics Hall of Fame, the City College of New York Hall of Fame, received many awards from the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and honored as a Legend of the Maccabiah in 2018. As a testament to her extraordinary professional efforts, Dr. Katz has been the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. She has been honored with an Outstanding Teacher Award, a Distinguished Faculty Award, and a Distinguished Teaching Award from the John Jay College Center for the Advancement of Teaching. She is now a professor emeritus at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
