HUNTINGTON, WV, November 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shelvy L. Campbell-Monroe, Ph.D., has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
While studying for her undergraduate degree, Dr. Campbell-Monroe began as a work-study student in the admissions office of West Virginia State University. She later worked in the university's academic affairs office, developing hands-on skills while learning how to prepare students for graduation, send final grades and monitor students on academic probation. After several years as a work-study, Dr. Campbell-Monroe decided to pursue a career in human resources.
Dr. Campbell-Monroe subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from West Virginia State University. Following this accomplishment, she earned a Master of Science in industrial and employee relations, an education specialist degree from Marshall University and a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education leadership from Capella University. In her present position, Dr. Campbell-Monroe has found much success as the inaugural associate dean for diversity and inclusion at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine & Marshall University School of Pharmacy.
With nearly 20 years of experience in human resources and admissions, Dr. Campbell-Monroe has proudly developed inclusive and equitable programs to create a better education experience for all students, faculty and staff at Marshall University. Previously, she excelled as a graduate records and admissions supervisor, as well as a civil rights and equity compliance administrator at West Virginia State University Research & Development Corporation. Throughout her career, she conducted presentations on topics such as "Writing a Compliant Affirmative Action Plan", "Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity"; "Implicit/Unconscious Bias and Micro aggressions." Furthermore, Dr. Campbell-Monroe has been involved in numerous professional and community activities, including the West Virginia Arthritis Foundation Leadership Board Chair; 2011 West Virginia Minority Health Advocacy Group, the Dunbar Recreational Commission and the Dunbar Athletic Boosters, Inc.
For her exemplary efforts over the years, Dr. Campbell-Monroe was named a West Virginia Wonder Woman for 2020 by WV Living magazine. She was presented the Martin Luther King "Living the Dream Award" in the area of scholarship from the West Virginia Martin Luther King Jr. State Holiday Commission and the Emerging Leaders Award from the National Association of Medical Minority Educators, Inc. She served for 5 years as the national program chair and is now president-elect of the National Association of Minority Educators, Inc. She has attributed her professional success to her faith and her mother, who always supported her. Likewise, Dr. Campbell-Monroe has been grateful for her mentors, many of whom were inspiring African-American women and men.
