Patrick Keith Rimer has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

MILL SPRING, NC, November 18, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Patrick Keith Rimer has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Growing up in a rural community teaches you the importance of faith, family and the drive to succeed. You learn the importance of friendship, the value of spending time with those you love and an appreciation for those who reach out to help their neighbors in times of need. As a young man Mr. Rimer's living circumstances changed many times. He knew little of where he would be year to year, changing schools and where he would call home. He moved to Polk County North Carolina the year he entered fifth grade and has been fortunate enough to call this his home. Sadly, he lost his father shortly after moving to Polk County, but many people in the rural town rallied around him to find a place to live, encouraging him as he grew. They helped him know a better life could be his if he could envision it and if he could keep moving forward with faith, family and an internal drive to succeed. He took the skills his father taught him and forged ahead to build a future for himself, for his future family and for his community. He took the carpentry skills his father passed along to him and built a very successful contracting business.

Mr. Rimer has been a licensed contractor since 1993. He has watched the construction industry wax and wane with the economy. The builders that can persevere through these challenges are those that have a strong work ethic. They seek new ways to keep their doors open and their employees working. During part of a slower time in 2010, Mr. Rimer scheduled to meet with the local School Superintendent to share a few ideas about vocational training. He saw a need for more skilled laborers in the construction industry as well as other skilled labor jobs in the area. They discussed the need to provide a path for those students who did not see or could not afford additional education upon graduation. They needed a plan and they needed skills. Some of those who thought they were ready for post secondary education but found themselves back home for various reasons also needed a plan with a set of skills to use like Mr. Rimer had- a Plan B. He wanted to help these kids in his community like he had once been helped. He wanted to give back like he had been given and help the community with more young people who might also start to grow and contribute back to the community. He offered to hold a workshop, teach a class or come speak to a class to give them an idea of what the building industry had to offer.

Fast forward five years and his life calling changed. With the retirement of both carpentry teachers at the local high school, a new giving path Mr. Rimer would take. He became a TEACHER. He stepped into the classroom to give back, to help young people see a new path after graduation, to answer that question they asked themselves - "Now what?". By stepping into the classroom, he helped build skills that are very desirable in the workplace. He encouraged the students to think ahead and make a plan for themselves and to make a backup plan for when that plan does not work. He teaches them carpentry and building skills, but he also teaches them to keep moving forward, to stop with excuses and to shake a hand firmly while looking at the person in the eye.

Mr. Rimer is a builder and knows the trade very well, so that is where he started in the lessons that he teaches. He thought of all the lessons he had been taught, both by himself and others. He thought of the tools and vocabulary he had learned and started from there. He placed all this base knowledge he had into a creative and interactive learning board in his classroom. A place where his students can visualize and touch the tools and vocabulary of "building". He reached out to the community he loved and knew how to help these kids. Thus the birth of our building program. The high school construction program builds small houses that the community desperately needs. Local people and programs buy the finished shell to place on their property to be finished at a later date. It is always a big day when the house is finished and the trucks come to move the house to its new home. A home for those who need one, a home away from home for those that are traveling or a temporary home for those that might just end up staying. And then we start again with the lessons and the skills, sharing what we know and learning new things to build a program and home while growing and filling a community need in many ways. Mr. Rimer is a carpenter, a builder, a teacher, a mentor and a friend to those around him and his community.
