LOS ALTOS, CA, November 18, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harold L. Crow (Hal) has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are taken into account during the selection process.
Hal came to the pharmaceutical business at mid-career, age 39. Upon graduating from San Francisco State University, 1964, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities, he volunteered to join the Peace Corps. He served two years in West Bengal, India helping to upgrade a state poultry farm and promoting poultry husbandry to local residents. Hal received many plaudits for his work, which prompted the Peace Corps in Washington, DC to beckon him to become a Foreign Service Reserve Officer to direct Peace Corps programs in South America. He made a five-year commitment and served first in Colombia, then as Country Director in Uruguay, and Panama.
After his government work, Hal seized an opportunity to help build a new, not-for-profit organization, Family Planning International Assistance (FPIA), in New York City. With funding from US AID, its purpose was to support family planning programs in developing countries. This work took him to some 50 countries and allowed Hal to meet pharmaceutical business leaders. This led Hal to get an offer to join Alza Pharmaceuticals in Palo Alto, California, as the Director of International Operations, beginning a new career in the pharmaceutical business.
From Alza, Hal joined Syntex Pharmaceuticals, also located in Palo Alto, CA where he honed his management and marketing skills, before being named director for an eight-country region in East Asia, living in Hong Kong.
After some ten years at Syntex, Hal opted to depart big pharma to focus on start-up medical companies in Silicon Valley. Hal was a key member of the team that started Vesta Medical, a company acquired by Pfizer. With that success, he became president and CEO of Aquintel, Inc., which created a device for monitoring the amount of fluid lost into the human body during gynecological procedures. The Davol division of C.R. Bard acquired Aquintel.
Then after two other start-up companies, Hal opted to leave active management and has served for the past 10-plus years as the Chairman of Tosk Inc. (Tosk.com), a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to improving outcomes for cancer patients by developing new drugs to improve the safety and efficacy of therapies and to block the activity of cancer genes.
