While growing up in close proximity to a neighbor who was an attorney Mr. Brill selected the legal profession as a career. Following Mr. Brill's college career at the University of Kansas where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors (1971), Mr. Brill entered the KU law school where he mainly pursued researching Kansas legal history with Professor Francis Heller. Mr. Brill was also elected Secretary of the Phillip Jessup International Law Society, Washington, D.C. in 1974-1975. Upon completion of law school (1975), Mr. Brill worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Kansas for two years and was introduced to the field of antitrust litigation. Mr. Brill then entered private practice with Anderson, Granger, Nagels & Lastelic in Overland Park, Kansas and continued to participate in class action antitrust litigation representing businesses and consumers.
In 1992 Mr. Brill established his own law office. Mr. Brill has been recognized by Martindale Hubbell: Bar Register of AV Preeminent* Lawyers 2010-2020; Best Law Firms in Kansas, First-Tier Firm Rankings, U.S. News & World Report, 2014-2020; Best Lawyers in Kansas City (Ingrams) 2009 -2019 Antitrust; Best Lawyers in America, in practice areas of Antitrust and Litigation, 2007-2020; Super Lawyers in Kansas and Missouri, 2018-2020 Antitrust Law. Mr. Brill is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar and has appeared in two cases before the Supreme Court (1990, 2014). Mr. Brill considers his best legal accomplishment to be representing the former Farmland Industries, Inc. for over 14 years in a hotly disputed natural gas price fixing litigation. Mr. Brill hopes this client will win at a trial in 2021. Brill has been active in civic affairs in the Kansas City area serving as a City Councilman from 2001-2009, City of Mission Hills, Kansas; President of the Children's Therapeutic Learning Center, Kansas City, Missouri (2000) and a Board member from 1995-2000; President of the Children's Center Campus in 2001 and a Board of Directors 2016-2020.
Mr. Brill also previously served on the Kansas City Community Kitchen Board of Directors (1995-2001), Kansas City Public Television Channel 19 Board of Directors from 1998-2001. Mr. Brill received the Centurions' Leadership Award from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce in 1989. Currently Mr. Brill is on the Pioneer Bluffs Board of Directors in Mattfield Green, Kansas (Flint Hills).
Mr. Brill hopes to continue pursuing antitrust and consumer cases on behalf of clients and continue to be involved in civic nonprofit board work.
