Mr. Ross is an engineer and consultant on glass manufacturing and production science. Having come of age as a curious and talented student, he distinctly recalls watching the NBC television short series "Industry on Parade" as a child. Fascinated by the show's depiction of factories and laboratories, Mr. Ross soon developed an interest in applying his scientific talents to the demands of industrial production. He completed a Bachelor of Science in ceramic engineering at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1965, and began to seek jobs in the glass industry.
In 1972, Mr. Ross became the manager of glass development and furnaces for Federal Glass. He would remain active with the company until 1977, when he was appointed as the vice president of Batch & Furnace Engineering for Kerr Glass. He would spend the next 15 years with Kerr Glass, further developing his technical expertise in all aspects of glass engineering and production. In the late 1970s, Mr. Ross began presenting and delivering technical demonstrations at industry conferences, securing his position as a subject matter expert.
Mr. Ross established Glass Industry Consulting in 1992, bringing his decades of industry experience and personable instruction style directly to clients. He continues to offer comprehensive technical consulting and auditing services to major manufacturers around the world, with a client list including industry leaders such as Gallo Glass, Libbey Glass, and American Glass Research. Mr. Ross is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to glass engineering, including a 25 Year Recognition from the Conference for Glass Problems, and a 2007 Business Technology Award. In 1996, In was named a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society. Likewise, in 2019, he was named a Fellow of the Society of Glass Technology.
Mr. Ross remains active in such professional organizations as the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council, the Glass Packaging Institute and the Ceramics Manufacturing Council, where he is a past president. He credits his success to a sustained passion for the glass industry, as well as his plans to teach and mentor the next generation of professionals. In his leisure time, Mr. Ross volunteers with various charity golf tournaments as a walking scorer.
