Ms. Sabral is a management expert, coach and entrepreneur with nearly three decades of excellence in global retail leadership. She studied exhibition and interior design at Northwich College before beginning her retail career as a merchandising manager and store manager for Gap Inc, where she spent the next five years developing a diverse understanding of the needs and demands of regional and store-level retail operations. In 1997, Ms. Sabral became a manager for Starbucks, and was transferred from a UK location to a store in Florida before her departure in 2002.
During the following year, Ms. Sabral returned to Gap Inc, managing both Gap and Banana Republic locations in the United States and Canada. In 2008, she joined Laura, a women's clothing retailer with more than 140 stores throughout Canada, as a regional sales manager. Ms. Sabral left Laura in 2010, briefly serving as a retail talent recruiter and People Manager for Apple before returning to the company, rising to become the director of sales in 2012. From 2013 until 2015, she acted as the director of sales and operations for Holt Renfrew before being named as the regional director of sales and operations for DAVIDsTEA's Eastern Canada sales region. Ms. Sabral was then appointed as the national director of retail sales for DAVIDsTEA in 2017, and served as the company's vice president of global retail sales and operations for Canada and the United States in 2019.
Driven by a desire to share her extensive, industry-specific leadership and management strategy with others, she now serves as Founder and President of retailu (www.retailu.ca), an online competency-based leadership development company that focuses specifically on retail leaders to provide a better education and develop their leadership skills. She also has her own coaching practice where professional women can join her membership and receive development support to help them reach senior roles in business (www.aprilsabral.com).
Ms. Sabral co-founded Allyship Today, a bias-recognition and inclusivity training curriculum designed to drive transformative conversations about privilege and equity in the workplace and the larger community. She holds credentials from the John Maxwell Team and Shift Coaching Inc., and strives to create value and positivity for the people and organizations in every space she enters.
