He went on to graduate top of his class with a bachelor and a Master of laws at the University of Douala in 2008; then he obtained a corporate and finance LL.M. from the Wayne State University Law School in 2010. Dr. Pouga Tinhaga continued his educational pursuits at the University of Michigan Law School, earning a LL.M. in international tax law in 2013 with a 4 GPA, and later defending a dissertation with excellence for his Doctorate of Juridical Science from Michigan Law School in 2016.
Dr. Pouga Tinhaga's professional career has unfolded in Manhattan New York, thus far, beginning as an associate attorney for Ernst & Young, LLP in 2013; then moving to Gide Loyrette Nouel, LLP in 2016 as an International Tax Senior Associate; and eventually returning to Ernst & Young in 2020, as an International Tax Partner. Dr. Pouga Tinhaga has a wide variety of casework with specific focus on international aspects of United States taxation. He advises major multinational companies on tax aspects of their transactions including principally mergers and acquisitions, financial markets, and expanding into new markets globally. He has acted as counsel in some of the major transactions and for some of the largest multinational companies globally.
Outside of law, Dr. Pouga Tinhaga and his wife founded the Excellence Plus Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping underprivileged children pursue an education. Drawing from his own personal story, the foundation provides financial and mentoring support to educational programs so that children who may be not have been able otherwise, are afforded a chance to go to school and transform their communities.
As a testament to his excellence in the law and his commitment to others, Dr. Pouga Tinhaga was extraordinarily ranked in the prestigious top 40 Under 40 list by the American Bar Association, and recognized as a Top 40 under 40, Nation's Best Advocates by the National Bar Association; a rare double distinction for lawyers in America.
