LANGHORNE, PA, December 07, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alan B. Brackup has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Inspired by his father, an oculoplastic surgeon and one of the founding members of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Brackup earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lafayette College where he graduated Summa cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and with honors in Biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Stanford University School of Medicine. After completing a residency in ophthalmology at Stanford University Hospitals and Clinics with honors, and a fellowship in oculofacial plastic surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Dr. Brackup began his career as plastic surgeon. He was the first surgeon in the United States to be certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.
Dr. Brackup currently excels as an oculofacial plastic surgeon at Cosmetic Surgery Specialists in Langhorne, where he is also affiliated with the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Saint Mary Hospital. In addition to his primary medical appointments, Dr. Brackup is active as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and an associate fellowship director for the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
As a respected voice in his field, Dr. Brackup has been frequently invited to lecture at conferences as well as at some of the most prestigious meetings in the country. Dr. Brackup was further noted as the first instructor of the facelift course for the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for five years. Furthermore, Dr. Brackup published one of the first papers describing the combined use of carbon dioxide laser skin resurfacing and face lift surgery, among his numerous other publications in the plastic surgery literature.
Civically, Dr. Brackup has found success as the chairman of the medical board of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission and a ringside physician for numerous boxing title and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events, including the inaugural UFC event in 1993. As an avid practitioner of combat sports over 40 years, he holds black belt ranks in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Ricardo Almeida, and in Shotokan karate. He was also appointed by the governor to develop medical policy as it relates to the combat sports of mixed martial arts and boxing in Pennsylvania, where he is the medical director of the State Athletic Commission.
Dr. Brackup's greatest passion remains his family, including his wife of 35 years Eileen, and their 3 children. Under her maiden name of Mitchell, Eileen worked as a tax attorney at Coopers and Lybrand, and the law firm of Drinker, Biddle and Reath in Philadelphia. Their son Robert is a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Their daughter Julia is a policy analyst at the RAND Corporation, while their son Shane is a law student at Rutgers University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Brackup has been proud to be honored with many professional accolades, including being presented with the Henry I. Baylis Cosmetic Surgery Award from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery for lifetime contributions to the field. Likewise, he has also been honored with the John J. and Hazel Foster Award for outstanding research from the Department of Ophthalmology at the Stanford University Medical Center.
He has also been recognized by Castle Connolly Top Doctors and Philadelphia Magazine Top Doctors for several years, and he has accepted multiple accolades from Vitals, including the Patients' Choice Award, On-Time Doctor Award and the Compassionate Doctor Award.
