ATHENS, OH, December 09, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor Lois Deimel Whealey with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Ms. Whealey celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Whealey is a retired educator and activist with a lifelong commitment to empowering others in the classroom and in the larger community. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history from Stanford University in 1951 and a Master of Education from the University of Michigan in 1955. Ms. Whealey completed her education at Ohio University, earning a Master of Arts in political science in 1975 and a Master of Science in social sciences in 2007.

She put her teaching career on hold in the early 1960s, whereupon she started her own family, and returned to work in 1974 as an administrative assistant and part-time instructor for Humanities Conferences at Ohio University. Ms. Whealey's subsequent career has focused on informal education and citizen activism.
Ms. Whealey's community advocacy extends to her deep involvement in human services, youth leadership, infrastructure and municipal government, as well as faith-based organizations. She is a former AmeriCorps VISTA with Rural Action and has held leadership roles in the Athens County Regional Planning Commission, the Athens City School District Board of Education and the Tri-County Career Center school board. Likewise, Ms. Whealey has been active in Unitarian Universalist and congregational service since the 1970s, and served as the co-chairperson of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and National Volunteer Caregiving Network from 2003 until 2005.
Ms. Whealey is a past member of the boards of Organize! Ohio, the Ohio Alliance for the Environment, AAUW Ohio and Ohio Women Inc. Furthermore, she has contributed to professional journal articles and is the former host of a radio show, "Women Today and Yesterday," on Athens Community Television Channel 1017. Though committed to a wide range of community organizations, Ms. Whealey is most enthusiastic about her work with the Girl Scouts of America, fondly recalling her own time as a Girl Scout, the scouting adventures of her daughter and two granddaughters.
In recognition of her tireless commitment to social and environmental justice, Ms. Whealey has been the recipient of three Lifetime Achievement Awards from the United Campus Ministry at Ohio University, a Nora Price Award from the SEOH Planned Parenthood, and a Spirit Award from the League of Women Voters of Athens County, among many others. She is an alumna member of Pi Lambda Theta and Phi Kappa Phi, and a life member of the American Association of University Women.
