As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Martin has focused his work in the areas of bionanotechnologies, biomimetics, membrane ion transport, electrophysiology, and biomedical engineering. During his career, he has secured over 10 patents and has contributed over 100 scholarly articles. He also published a book in 2007 on nanobiotechnology through Springer. The book was later translated into Russian in 2012 through Nauchny Mir in Moscow.
In 2005, Dr. Martin founded OzNano2Life, a successful Australian nanobiotechnology network that has funded postdoctoral researchers in universities and institutions throughout Australia. His company has additionally served as a gateway for sharing scientific information with nanotechnology institutes in Europe. Dr. Martin was likewise recruited as a committed member of the MAGI Group's bioethics committee in Italy, which is devoted to the research, diagnosis and treatment of genetic and rare diseases.
Dr. Martin pursued an education at the University of New South Wales in Australia, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in optometry, a Master of Biomedical Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in biomechanics. He also accepted a graduate diploma in education from the University of Technology Sydney. Dr. Martin subsequently completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in electrophysiology at the University of Sydney, with which he conducted research on ion channels in non-excitable cells of exocrine glands.
Designated as a fellow and honorary member of the University of Melbourne in Australia, Dr. Martin was active as a member of the American Chemical Society, the secretary-general of the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association and an executive board member of the Australian French Association for Science and Technology. He was notably recognized as the French Chair of Excellence to establish a research program in nanobiosciences with the Nanosciences Foundation and the University of Grenoble Alpes in 2009.
