As a child of divorce, Ms. Catt spent much of her childhood in court sessions between her warring parents, an experience that made her become more curious about the law as she grew older. She eventually obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Colorado and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the George Washington University Law School. Ms. Catt was later admitted to practice law in Colorado and California.
Ms. Catt began her career as an associate attorney at Nachlis and Fink, and later worked as an associate attorney at Harrington Brewster & Clein PC. She also served of counsel at Harrington, Brewster, Mahoney, Smits PC. Ms. Catt currently practices at the Law Office of Rachel Catt, with which she strives to help families going through difficult transitions in the least painful and most productive, cost-effective ways.
Over the years, Ms. Catt has been incredibly proud to excel as pro-bono co-counsel for the National Center for Lesbian Right in 2010. More recently, she accepted a same-sex common law marriage case in Colorado which led to a more refined definition of common law marriage for same-sex couples in Colorado. For her efforts, she has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in Family Law and Super Lawyers. Honored as the Barrister of the Year, she was nominated as the Attorney of the Year and was presented with the Pro Bono Service Award and an AVVO rating of 10 out of 10 for several consecutive years. Looking toward the future, Ms. Catt plans to extend her mediation in neutral practice and eventually hire an associate at her firm.
