After emigrating from Cuba and living with family friends for a few months, Ms. Diamonds moved to Columbia, Missouri, where she obtained a job as a nursing assistant at the University of Missouri's Medical Center. Originally intent on pursuing a career in journalism, she worked full time during her studies before being approached by a number of professors who asked if she was going to become a nurse. Due to her natural abilities, they suggested she switch career paths, which changed the course of her life.
In 1968, Ms. Diamonds graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. From there, she gained valuable expertise in the field through numerous roles before obtaining her current role as a registered nurse in the progressive care unit of Riverside Community Hospital. In addition to her work in the health care industry, she worked in real estate for four years. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of having her writing recorded in the Library of Congress.
Over the years, Ms. Diamonds has remained professionally aligned with the World Affairs Council and the American Nurses Association. Alongside her work in nursing, she gave back to her community by donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Looking toward the future, she intends to remain in good health and return to school to earn her master's degree in international medical relations. Ultimately, Ms. Diamonds aims to experience continued growth and success in her career.
